Responsibilities As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support pharmacy operations by assisting with medication preparation, inventory management, and patient service activities. You'll work alongside licensed pharmacists to ensure accurate dispensing of medications and maintain high standards of pharmaceutical care for veteran patients. Your role will be crucial in supporting the healthcare mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Requirements Candidates must be U.S. citizens with proficiency in spoken and written English per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). A minimum of one year of experience equivalent to GS-06 level (federal or non-federal) is required. For GS-07 and higher positions, active national certification is mandatory through either the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) as an ExCPT.
Special provisions apply for current VHA Pharmacy Technicians employed as of November 7, 2023, who are grandfathered under existing qualifications. Applicants who have not yet completed educational or certification requirements may receive tentative selection but cannot be hired until all credentials are obtained.
