Join Airbnb's Authorization Infrastructure team and help secure one of the world's most trusted platforms. Since 2007, Airbnb has evolved from hosting three guests in San Francisco to connecting over 5 million hosts with 2+ billion guest arrivals globally. We're building Himeji, our centralized authorization system handling 8+ million checks per second, and we're at a pivotal moment as AI agents become integral to our platform.

Responsibilities **
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll drive the technical strategy and architectural evolution of our authorization platform. You'll define how our systems adapt to AI-era requirements including natural language policies, contextual access controls, and multi-agent workflows. Your role involves securing cross-functional alignment on AI agent authorization standards and establishing company-wide engineering practices for seamless authorization integration.
You'll collaborate extensively with InfoSec, AI Infrastructure, Privacy, ML Infrastructure, and product platform teams to strengthen the authorization foundation supporting our entire organization.

Requirements **
We're seeking an experienced engineer ready to operate at the crossroads of foundational infrastructure and advanced AI security. You should have expertise in designing and scaling authorization systems, strong architectural thinking, and experience with high-throughput distributed systems. The ideal candidate brings deep understanding of security principles, experience with AI/ML system integration, and proven ability to drive technical strategy across large engineering organizations.
This remote position offers the opportunity to shape authorization standards for the AI transformation while ensuring trusted, secure-by-default access controls across all Airbnb services.
Monday to Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM (full-time)
